Can you tell us the story of your boutique? How did it all begin?
"The story of Body House is a family adventure. A desire to democratize pleasure and break taboos around intimate pleasure. It is also the fusion of three worlds: intimate toys, cosmetics, and the world of lingerie and ready-to-wear fashion. This story, which has been evolving for over 18 years, has seen significant changes over the years, especially with the modernization of sensual boutiques, known as 'love shops.' This concept took a new turn in 2022, with stores featuring warm furnishings, soft colors, and a product range tailored to new customer desires. Today, Body House is a network of 15 boutiques across France, an online store, and a home sales network, all with a common goal: making sexual well-being accessible to all."
How would you describe the identity and style of your boutiques in a few words?
"Body House aims to be a network of modern boutiques where everyone can find their place, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere with personalized furnishings, light warm colors, a custom radio, and carefully curated lighting. Our identity and values are ‘pleasure for everyone,’ without shame, with kindness and expertise. Sex is still too often stigmatized. Body House makes it a priority to listen to its customers, guide them, and advise them with tolerance in a place designed for open and confidential conversations."
What types of products or brands do you highlight in your boutiques, and why?
"We market three main categories: cosmetics, intimate toys, and lingerie. Each category has been designed to meet the expectations of as many customers as possible. Whether you're just starting to explore your sexuality or you're more experienced, you will find the perfect product for you at Body House. We emphasize the importance of self-discovery before focusing on pleasing someone else."
How do you perceive the evolution of fashion trends at the moment?
"It is clear that fashion is an endless cycle that constantly reinvents itself. Today, fashion is becoming increasingly inclusive, not only in terms of sizes but also regarding cultural and gender diversity. Like many brands, we strive to embrace this diversity and offer collections that meet the needs and expectations of a broader and more diverse audience. Body shapes and personalities are unique, so our selection is rich in sizes and styles."
What advice would you give to a new customer discovering your store for the first time?
"Take the time to talk with one of our advisors. All of them are trained in sexology. Personalized guidance is what sets us apart from other players in this industry. Through these conversations, you will be directed to the products that best suit you and, most importantly, those that are most appropriate for your intimate well-being. These discussions take place with total discretion and kindness, so don’t hesitate to ask. Our store is a space of free expression where you can find pleasure."
Which products from your brand are the most successful in your stores? Why do you think that is?
"The Catanzaro brand plays a significant role in our prêt-à-porter collection. Its originality, unique style, and diversity allow everyone to find their perfect match. Additionally, it offers a wide range of sizes, from XS to 4XL in many models. Body House's favorite: the Isabella dress, without a doubt."
What has been the most popular product in the store’s history?
"Remote-controlled eggs have been a staple in our product range for years. Perfect for solo pleasure or to enjoy as a couple. Not to mention the ‘happiness gel,’ a pleasure cream to use alone or with a partner. It’s a must-have that appeals to all generations."
Have you noticed a change or rather an evolution in your clientele?
"Yes, we have observed a significant evolution in our clientele over the past few years. There has been a real shift in the perception and approach to intimate products, whether it be intimate toys, sensual cosmetics, or lingerie. Nowadays, there is a greater openness and an increasing desire to explore these products in a more normalized and uninhibited way. One of the main changes is the expansion of our customer base. We have seen that more and more people, regardless of their age, gender, or sexual orientation, are interested in these kinds of products. The taboos surrounding sexuality and intimate well-being are gradually fading, creating a broader and more diverse demand. Our customers are increasingly open to the idea of taking care of their personal well-being and exploring new ways to enhance their intimate life."
What has been your most memorable experience with a customer?
"It’s hard to choose just one memorable experience. However, one special moment happens in the fitting room, when a customer is overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing herself and appreciating her body with a positive self-image. Highlighting beauty and restoring confidence to someone who has undergone a physical transformation or a major life change is a fundamental part of our job, which requires empathy and kindness. Addressing intimacy with professionalism and ease is at the core of what we do."
Do you have any anecdotes to share with your customers?
"A customer, new and curious, once asked us: «Can anyone wear this kind of clothing?» while pointing at a shiny vinyl outfit. Our response was: «Of course, madam. It’s all about attitude, personality, and, most importantly, what you feel comfortable with.» Another anecdote: A customer said, «I wasn’t expecting this at all when I walked in. It’s beautiful and well-organized, the products are attractive. It was a pleasant surprise. And the staff is normal, just like the other customers.»"
Are there any new or exclusive products you offer that you would like to share with our readers?
"Our brand has its own Research & Development department. Innovation and always listening to our customers allow us to offer products tailored to their needs. Today, we offer exclusive collections, including some made in Italy, a French-made cosmetics line with refined packaging, as well as a range of intimate toys developed over several years, combining high quality with attractive pricing. We also offer ‘playkits,’ specially designed for different occasions, as well as mini gourmet candles with enchanting fragrances."
What do you enjoy most about your job and your boutique?
"What we love most about our work is the opportunity to create a space where people feel comfortable, respected, and free to explore their intimate well-being. Our boutique is not just a retail space; it is a place where customers can come with confidence, free of judgment, to discover products that enhance their daily lives and personal well-being. There is also great satisfaction in guiding customers through this journey, providing them with personalized advice, and offering them a unique shopping experience. Breaking taboos around intimate products and contributing to a more open and uninhibited conversation about sexuality and well-being is incredibly rewarding. The friendly atmosphere of our team and the trusting relationships we build with our customers create a warm and enjoyable experience. This combination of expert advice, high-quality products, and a respectful environment makes our work both exciting and fulfilling."
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your stores?
"Our biggest challenge has been breaking taboos and changing the perception of intimate products among some customers. Historically, these products have often been considered ‘taboo,’ and it has taken constant effort to normalize their use and help people feel comfortable with the idea of purchasing them. This has involved not only creating a respectful and welcoming shopping environment but also launching awareness campaigns, offering personalized advice, and educating our customers about the importance of intimate well-being. We have had to overcome certain stereotypes and cultural hesitations while remaining sensitive to the diverse needs and concerns of our clientele. All of this has required adapting to market changes and consumer expectations, particularly with the rise of online shopping and competition from other platforms. It has been crucial to maintain a unique and personalized customer experience in our physical stores while expanding our digital presence to continue meeting customer expectations and providing high-quality service. Our challenge is to normalize access to stores like ours. No one should deprive themselves of the benefits of a fulfilling sexuality. This is the beginning of an era where intimate pleasure holds a place of honor, just like a fine piece of jewelry, a great restaurant, or a luxurious perfume."
How do you see the future of your brand? Do you have plans for expansion or innovation?
"We aim to expand our presence throughout France, making it easier to find a ‘Body House’ boutique near you with the opening of new franchises.
