THE FETISH FURNITURE! MADE IN FRANCE
We present to you Robert & Shibari, a brand of beds and bed accessories designed and made in France for those who do more than just sleep in their beds ;)
At Robert & Shibari, we believe that intimacy and desire are essential to a thriving relationship. Our mission is to transform the bedroom into a space of trust, comfort, and desire—an invitation to (re)discover and to dare. We bring together sexologists and designers to create innovative furniture that blends seamlessly into everyday life. Our products are designed to enhance intimate experiences without "sexualizing" the bedroom, thus maintaining the delicate balance between function and aesthetics.
We offer a range of modular beds and accessories: bed frames with discreet storage and anchor points, headboards, and removable accessories made from recycled materials. Each piece is lovingly crafted in France with a strong ecological commitment. Welcome to Robert & Shibari.
How did you discover your passion for creating fetish furniture?
Design and furniture have always been a passion of mine. In 2013, I came across an interview with a leading entrepreneur in the field of sexuality, who spoke about innovation, love, and toys… Something inside me awakened. Years later, I was finally able to bring together the subjects that fascinated me—and it all made sense.
While working for a major bed base manufacturer, I remember thinking: “I don’t just sleep in my bed,” and that felt so limiting. From there came a rough sketch, some love, a prototype… and the bed of my dreams was born. It caught on, got improved, and became Robert & Shibari. Turns out I wasn’t the only one thinking this way!
What are the key features that define your style of fetish furniture?
"Beautify your sexuality and your surroundings."
We design fetish furniture, made for the bedroom: it's like having a dungeon in your room—only it's invisible and fits perfectly into its environment. You can have kids and an uninhibited sex life at home.
"Feeling good and safe is the first step to going further"—the environment matters so much. Style is important; it should be clean, minimal, yet functional.
The couple’s space should be a cocoon without judgment—freeing, stimulating, and a place to dream your sexuality.
Our furniture is modular and toy-friendly: hidden compartments, anchor points for restraint or suspension… A whole range of objects pairs with our pieces—lamps, candle holders, mounting fixtures…
By offering a universe of possibilities for our desires, we help keep passion alive.
Our headboards with magnetic accessories can be screwed or glued to the wall. The finish is customizable (size, look, color, with or without shelves…). Built to withstand life, washable, antibacterial, and recyclable.
Accessories are strongly magnetized but do not mark the surface. The magnetic anchor points were developed and tested to ensure resistance, and they can be removed if needed. They are also washable.
What inspirations or influences guide you in the creation of your unique pieces?
One of our main influences is psychology and the input of sexuality professionals in our creative process. We've had the opportunity to work on some amazing custom projects that led us to fantastic products. I'm thinking especially of our headboards—simple, sleek, and functional.
Would you say there's a Japanese influence there?
Some people are very sensitive to touch, like me: a firm feel, a deep sound, a sense of weight and solidity... Once assembled, our furniture is not light—it grounds you, makes you feel protected and safe.
Steel is the material of love and reason—a favorite of ours. It's clean, strong, infinitely recyclable, and environmentally friendly with unmatched longevity.
Each variation has its characteristics and applications. Parts exposed to wear are made of food-grade stainless steel; the rest is hot-lacquered for a flawless, durable, and washable finish.
We work very little with wood or fabric in our fetish furniture, for hygiene reasons. We favor large, flat, easy-to-clean surfaces—and steel allows us to offer magnetic accessories made from upcycled production scraps!
Can you tell us about your process of creating and crafting fetish furniture?
Our furniture is handcrafted in our workshop in Perpignan from raw materials that we transform. Of course, it all begins with a very theoretical and 3D design phase.
We often receive custom requests—from professionals and individuals alike. We love this aspect; it’s exciting and lets us explore ideas that aren’t part of our daily catalogue.
What challenges do you face as a fetish furniture designer?
One big challenge in our line of work is ensuring strength and modularity without compromising aesthetics—it's incredibly complex.
Another major challenge was getting people to recognize an object that didn’t exist yet—to give a voice to the importance of environment in sexual well-being.
Do you have a story to share?
At the very beginning of our journey, I crossed paths with one of our earliest inspirations and advisors for Robert & Shibari, who is now the editor of this amazing magazine: Thank you, Paula from Maison Catanzaro, thank you so much!
(Small tip: A spring mattress is usually more responsive than a foam one, which tends to absorb motion…)
How do you see the future of your brand?
In the short term, we’ve got new products on the way—we can’t wait to share them! In the long run, we want to become the reference in bedroom furniture designed for sexuality.
We want to have a positive impact on society and relationships. That means building a larger team and increasing production—but always in a way that respects people and the planet.
When sexuality professionals reach out to support us, I know we’re on the right path.
… and your career as a fetish furniture designer? In pink?
I hope it brings together enough love to make it triumph!
